When I was a wee poppet, my parents would buy me an advent calendar. For those unfamiliar with this tradition, it’s a gift often given to children a month before Christmas. The commercially-made versions consist of a box with little numbered doors that are opened each day to reveal a special treat while waiting for Christmas.
In my neighborhood in Cambridge, there is a home with an advent calendar of sorts: Each day there is a new surprise outside marked with a “Free” sign.
